Small-Bore Rifle shooting is carried out using the .22 Long Rifle cartridge and single shot rifles specially designed for target shooting. They are single-shot and use straight-forward 'iron' sights (i.e. telescopic sights are not allowed except in special competitions).

Small-bore Rifle shooting is a precise sport, and is enjoyed by a very wide range of people. Men and Women compete together on equal terms, and many shooters can compete from their early teens into their eighties.

Short-range small-bore shooting is generally at 25 yards, although exceptionally it can be shot at 20 yards or even 15 yards. At these distances, ranges are generally of the indoor variety, although plenty of outdoor 25 yard ranges exist. Long-range small-bore shooting is always outdoors, although firing points are normally covered. Here, long-range means 50 metres / yards, and 100 yards.

If you are interested in taking up Small-bore Rifle, please start by contacting the NSRA, who will be able to help you to find a club in your area that will be willing to help you become proficient in this discipline.
